English Language Development

Ms. Walsh:  English Language Development

Welcome to the Pioneer Elementary ELD page!  ELD students have a language-of-influence. For some, English is their second language.  For many others, someone in their life regularly speaks another language with them. The purpose of ELD is to support these students across the curriculum in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
This is my second year at Pioneer, and I am thrilled to be here full time this year.  Your child’s English Language Learning Plan will tell you more about the frequency and type of service your child will receive this year.  I will be pushing in, pulling small groups, and, in some cases, seeing students 1:1.

A little about me:  This school year is my 35th year in education.  I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Colorado.  I completed my Reading Specialist certification in the state of Missouri, and earned my Linguistically Diverse endorsement from the state of Colorado.  My experience includes 14 years as a classroom teacher, 15 years as a Reading Intervention teacher, 2 years as a coach, and 3 years as an ELD teacher.

As you know from the summer newsletters, Little Free Libraries are my favorite.  Great news: Pioneer now has one located just outside of the front doors! Watch my newsletter throughout the year for updates about our adventures with Little Free Books!
