Pioneer Community Update 10/9
Fall Break 10/12-10/16
FUN RUN UPDATE- We did it!
Hey Families! Thank you for your support these past few weeks! We did it! Pioneer Elementary students and families met their fundraising goal. Mr. Bainbridge and Mrs. de la Pena will get PIED IN THE FACE!! As of now, we are scheduled with the face pieing for October 19th when both cohorts return to in-person learning. Because of health guidelines, we will not be able to have a huge gathering to watch. We plan to offer live streaming to our students and Facebook live streaming to our families. Look for more information soon! Thank you for your support!
We anticipate double the amount of students being dropped off by a car when we return from fall break. PLEASE PULL ALL THE WAY FORWARD. We will have additional staff in our drop off zone to move cars along.
Please help us by putting your Pikmykid car tags in the window or just a paper with your child's name. It will help us speed up the queuing process.
We will begin to dismiss Car Riders at 3:50 and walkers will be at 3:55 to ensure social distancing in the hallways. Bus and Base students will be dismissed at 4:00. It is imperative that you update your child's dismissal if you plan a change.
As a reminder: K/1 walkers will be dismissed out of the main doors in the front. 2/3 walkers will be dismissed out of the playground doors. 4/5 walkers will be dismissed out by the doors that lead to our portables (back of the school). ALL CAR RIDERS come out the front of the school.
Halloween Parade!
K-2 will be from 2:40-3:10 and 3rd-5th will be from 3:15-3:45. We ask that you remain in your car just moving through the route, no passing/throwing candy to the students. A simple wave is greatly appreciated. More information shared in the October 23rd update.
A huge thank you to our volunteers who pitched in to help get our outdoor classrooms ready and classroom prepared for in-person learning
Discovery Program Application Process
The application process for the Discovery Program will open Monday, October 19. Applications are due December 4, 2020. The Discovery Program is designed for highly advanced gifted learners in grades 2 - 6 whose needs will be best met in a center based program.

Emergency Messaging Test
DCSD will conduct a test of its emergency notification system, including email, mobile app, website, social media, text and voice messaging on Wednesday, October 21. Should a real emergency arise, the test will be delayed.
How do I update my emergency contact information?
Log into the Infinite Campus Parent Portal (campus.dcsdk12.org) and click on “More” in the left-hand column. Navigate to “Family Information” and review your contact information. If you see an incorrect phone number or email, please update it in Infinite Campus, or contact the registrar at your child’s school to request an update.
I received everything except a text message. How can I fix this?
You must select to receive text messages from our system. Confirm that you have selected to receive text messaging (SMS) for emergency and/or school notifications through Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
What phone number will my caller ID show when I get calls?
When you receive communication from the DCSD SchoolMessenger system, the number displayed will depend on the type of message. The two types of communication include:
Emergency Notifications (critical communications)
855-695-9448 (you may wish to add this number to your contacts)
Standard/School Notifications (lunch balance, event reminders, general communication)
877-279-4061 (you may wish to add this number to your contacts)
Should you have additional questions, please contact the IT Support Center (303-387-0001) to ensure you receive emergency notifications accurately and quickly.
Parents/Guardians: Read more about updating your contact preferences.
We have exciting things happening at Stone Canyon! Fall Break Camp starts on Monday. We have Halloween Family Camp on October 31st. Come dressed in your costume and ride the zipline, climb the high ropes course and take aim on our archery range. Then in November, we will be hosting our Thanksgiving Culinary Camp where your camper will learn how to make a mouthwatering Thanksgiving feast, make a pie to bring home to share with their families and of course participate in outdoor adventure activities!

BookBar is pleased to bring author and illustrator Adam Rex to Pioneer on Tuesday, October 20! Adam is celebrating his newly released book, On Account of the Gum, and is ready to share his craft with the students. This is an opportunity not to miss! Be ready to laugh! Watch for your Google Meet link from your teacher.
On Account of the Gum is a book about how the best intentions lead to some of the worst (and funniest) ideas!
Serious humor abounds in this story about one kid's hilarious misadventures with gum, and the cumulative buildup of stuff stuck in hair.
From the madcap mind of Adam Rex comes a book about the improbable, downright bizarre remedies for problem kids have faced since the creation of gum.
• Features hilarious text with unexpected turns and fun rhymes
• Wacky suggestions make this prime for constant giggles and repeat reading
• Author Adam Rex has a funny, smart, and relatable style
How do you get gum out of your hair—a pair of scissors? Butter? The cat? Call your aunt, she'll know what to do. She doesn't? Try the fire department!
With each page turn, this situation—relatable to any family—grows stickier and more desperate.
Adam’s book is available to purchase online at BookBardenver.com for $17.99.
25% of the sales will go to the school library. Choose curbside pickup at check-out and the book will be delivered to Pioneer. Use the code PIONEERFUNDRAISER in the comment section.
You can receive a personalized autographed bookplate for your book if ordered before the event. Write your child’s name in the comment section.
