Dear Fourth Grade Families,

Welcome to the 20-21 school year at Pioneer Elementary.  I am excited to be your fourth grade teacher this year.  I have been teaching fourth grade for the past 11 years and am looking forward to continuing to grow and learn with you this year in 4th grade!

I am a Colorado native, growing up in Arvada and graduating from Arvada West High School.  I attended Metro State and met my husband while working at Blue Mountain Ranch Youth Camp in Florissant, CO.  I have been teaching at Pioneer since it opened in 1997.  I have taught every elementary grade and fourth grade is my favorite.   I live in Franktown with my husband and 2 children.  My daughter is a junior at Ponderosa High School and my son is in 7th grade at Sagewood.   Our property allows us to raise chickens for eggs and have 3 horses, as well as one adorable puggle named Ernie and a mini-aussie named Murphy.  We enjoy hiking, baseball and sailing!

Fourth grade is such an amazing year filled with new friends, new responsibilities and so many fun activities. Some of the experiences I am excited to share with you are:

  • fun science units
  • learning all about Colorado history
  • continuing to learn and grow as readers, writers, and mathematicians
  • choosing field trips to help us learn and grow as a community.

Fourth grade expectations are great; many challenges and exciting experiences lie before us.  Please come prepared to work hard, think critically, and laugh a lot.  Several habits will help you be your best, or be a “PRO”:

1.  Positive attitude:  This is going to be awesome!

2.  Responsibility: Come to school prepared, and complete your work on time, to the best of your abilities.

3.  Organization:  Putting your supplies and assignments in a dedicated place increases productivity; organizing your work on the page will assist your learning.

I promise you will learn something new everyday.  I know I will learn something new from each of you.

To prepare for our first writing assignment, you will need to collect pictures for the following topics about you - family, favorites, vacations, friends, pets, and hobbies.  We will be making books about you.  These can be printed on copy paper or photo paper but will be glued into your books so don’t bring photos you want back.

I am checking email over the summer and will gladly answer any questions you have.  You will be receiving emails from me, towards the beginning of the school year and once school has started, so you are always aware of what is happening in our classroom.

Have a great summer and I can't wait to meet all of you on August 6th!  If you have any questions, you can contact me via email: [email protected],.
